  Camp of the Woods - August 10 - 17, 2024

Every year, friends and families from Grace Chapel escape to upstate New York for a week of relaxation, fun, worship, and community in the woods and lakes of the Adirondacks. Grace Chapel has been encouraging men, women and families of all ages and stages to come to Camp of the Woods every summer now for over 20 years. If you and your family plan on attending, be sure to call the COTW front desk (518) 548-4311 and register as a Grace Chapel attender.

Any questions please contact Ruthie Seiders at   or Toni Colarullo at  . For more information, read the FAQs below or visit CAMP-of-the-Woods

What is Camp of the Woods?

Camp of the Woods is a “resort” located on Lake Pleasant in Speculator, NY. About a 4 ½ hour drive from the Boston area, up in the Adirondack mountains, is this oasis of Christian community and breathtaking beauty. While some of the accommodations are indeed resort-like, others are very simple and affordable.

Camp of the Woods, as an organization, invites speakers from around the country to come and teach morning chapel for the week. They have an incredible music program of college and graduate students who are exceptional musicians and vocalists. They run a full children’s program every morning (Monday-Friday) as well as a youth program both in the mornings and several evening activities.

What makes Camp of the Woods special for Grace Chapel attenders?
  • First, we get a 15% discount on the rates (except for certain beachfront housing)! First timers get 25%!
  • Second, we carve out intentional time for us to be together as a church family. Each morning, Monday-Friday we gather for 30 minutes after breakfast and ahead of the regular programming for our own GC Gathering Time. We spend a little time singing led by one of our GC worship staff, one of our Kidstown staff works with our children to put on a skit that highlights a scripture text, one of our GC staff members gives a short devotional on that text, and we just have fun connecting with one another before the day gets under way.
  • Third, several evenings throughout the week we host campfires with singing and s’mores to gather our GC friends together.
  • Fourth, someone from our student ministry staff will be present all week long to plan some GC student/family friendly competitions and fun activities.
What kinds of activities does Camp of the Woods offer?

So much! Canoeing and hiking; sailboats, tubing, paddle boarding, kayaks, and jet-skis/tubing; tennis, pickle ball, basketball, volleyball, and the kids’ favorite – mini golf! There is also a craft shack where you can make ceramics and other fun things. Also, each evening there is something fun to go to – a musical presentation, a parade and games, CAMPO (their version of BINGO), and more. Check out their website to see all that they offer at www.camp-of-the-woods.org

Do they offer childcare?

Kids’ Klub and childcare for all ages available in the mornings. Childcare during evening activities for ages 8 and under. In addition, COTW staff are available to be hired as babysitters for your children. Sign up at the Main Desk. Cost is $10/hour (for up to 2 kids).

Are there other expenses besides the lodging and meals?
  • There is a snack shop called the TeePee which has a grill for burgers and fries, etc. as well as great ice cream, and even penny candy!
  • There is a gift shop where you can purchase COTW clothing, beach toys, local jewelry, etc.
  • If you want to participate in tipping the waitstaff and housekeeping staff. There is a suggested donation of $4/person/day for waitstaff and $2/person/day for housekeeping.
Is there financial assistance?

YES! We do not want finances to be the reason anyone does not come to COTW! Just fill out the scholarship request form. Your information will be kept confidential. We have a scholarship fund and COTW sometimes also has scholarships which become available at the end of May. We’ll work with you to make it possible for you to come!
